RTA (Algerian Radio & Television) replaced the former ORTF (French Radio & Television) on 28 October 1962. During the colonial period there was only one regional ORTF station. ENTV (the National TV Corporation) was founded by Decree № 86-147 on 1 July 1986. Its head office is at 21 Boulevard des Martyrs, Alger. ENTV is a public industrial and commercial corporation with a social and cultural vocation. It is a legal entity with financial independence and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Communication & Culture. ENTV provides a public television service and has a monopoly over television broadcasting nationwide. Its mission consists of informing, educating and entertaining by broadcasting all reportages and other programming about life at national, regional, local and international levels and issues of national current affairs. It runs, maintains and develops its production resources, trains its staff and preserves and manages its audiovisual archives. ENTV is run by Monsieur Habib-Chawki HAMRAOUI, the corporation's director-general, appointed by presidential decree.
