David Achkar was born in 1960 in New York CIty. Gone too soon, he promised to be one of the most brilliant filmmakers of his generation in Africa. He left behind him a small but significant filmography. Allah Tantou is his best-known work which became the first African film to confront the immense personal and political costs of the widespread human rights abuses on the continent. He passed away in 1998 in Conakry, Guinea.
