June Gachui is one of the few Intellectual Property (IP) Lawyers in Kenya who has opted to specialize in entertainment and the creative industries. She currently serves as the General Manager of the collective management organization (CMO) in Kenya that is mandated to look after collection of license fees from users and distribution of royalties to the rights holders who are the music producers and record labels in Kenya. This has been a challenging task which she has undertaken since late 2010 setting up effective systems in the company and working with a lean team, which has resulted in a significant rise in collections over the last 2 years, as well as sensitization of what KAMP is and what it was established to do.

Ms Gachui is also a well-known face and name in the Kenyan art scene having been a thespian and performing artiste for almost 2 decades, having featured in several movies, stage plays at various theatres and performed with her band at countless live music venues. It was therefore no surprise that this would be the perfect marriage of passion and skill, which would see Ms Gachui make a valuable contribution to sensitize creative industry players thus equipping them with practical tips which they can use to ultimately improve their livelihood. As a result, Ms Gachui has been a resource person during various workshops and conferences both nationally and internationally.

Ms. Gachui obtained her undergraduate degree (LL.B Law with French Law) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in London, UK and a diploma from the Universite Robert Schuman in Strasbourg, France. She subsequently was admitted to the Kenya School of Law upon successful completion of which, she was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Ms Gachui later earned her master degree (LL.M Intellectual Property) from the George Washington University School of Law in Washington D.C.
