Born in 1962, Kate Badoe earned a BA Hons from the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Kumasi) in 1985. Currently based in Tennessee (USA) her work has been exhibited in and collected internationally - mainly in Ghana, Canada, United States and several countries in Europe. She is represented by by Magical Muse Art Gallery (Cookeville), Gallery Art Gallery (Nashville) and Joysmith Gallery (Memphis) - all in the US.
The expression of the "sculptural idiom", which has long been introduced to the language of contemporary art by Kobina Bucknor, is dominantly apparent in her paintings. There is total disregard for academic realism in all her works in order to allow her the freedom to interpret the African artistic inspirational source of her work in a personal creative manner.
She has built a bridge of harmonious union whereby the aesthetic language of traditional African art can find accommodation in modern art expression of contemporary Africa. Remarkably, she has successfully transformed what Bucknor would have proudly said "the "three dimensional wood sculpture of art of ancient Africa into a modern two dimensional painting idiom" in contemporary Africa.
