Kiko Goifman was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1968 and now lives in São Paulo. He studied anthropology at the Universidade Federal Major in Minas Gerais, and completed a master's degree in multimedia studies at the University of Campinas. Along with directing documentary and experimental films, he has also created video installations.
