Adding FLAVA TO BONGO MLINGWA style.
When you first meet Michael Carter Mlingwa, You will know you are in the company of greatness. Casually dresses in a t-shirt and jeans, may blend into masses. However, this shy and intelligent young man has achieved success through seizing an opportunity and having faith in his dreams. This is his story.
One of 7 children, Michael was born and grew up in Morogoro, Where he completed his secondary schooling. Thereafter Michael made an audacious move to Dar Es Salaam, Where he studied web design. In Dar his passion for all things musical developed and he took a special interest in the Tanzanian hip hop music scene, popularly known as Bongo Flava.
At the same time, social networking sites were making their mark on the internet. Michael joined the Facebook network and has since garnered an impressive friends list of over 5,000 as he established himself on Facebook; Michael recognized the opportunity to promote Bongo Flava to his friends in Tanzania and the world over.
Michael soon discovered that many people hungered for updates on the Tanzanian music scene, so he started groups catering to Bongo Bongo Flava Music with news and reviews. Bongo Flava Music has over 22,994 fans, and provides general information pertaining to the industry, Whilst Bongo Flava – Swahili Hip Hop with over 5,900 focuses only on Swahili Music.
Michael hopes numbers for the latter group will grow up to 100,000 members; Fans want access to new tracks, and for those out the country they get a month after its release.
Through networking on Facebook Michael met Ralph Golden, a Bongo Flava enthusiast in Manchester UK. Together with Ralph, Who appreciated Michael's forward thinking, they started the website www.babkubwa.com (not afflicted to Baabkubwa magazine ), Promoting Bongo Flava. The website provides in-depth news, images and most importantly: Music downloads and has becaome an overnight success. Alongside this project, Michael and Golden also embarked on graphic design, Website Design, Video Production and Music Production ventures. Riding the wave of social networking sites such as facebook, Michael and Ralph have just lauched their own social network called www.babkubwa.com as an extension of the website and which already has about 35,00 members. Backed with heavy promoting and strong partnership links worldwide, the network is intended to be Bongo Flava's ( and Tanzania's) own Facebook, or as Michael so eloquently puts it "in case Facebook fails someday, we somewhere to go" He has big dreams
Michael also started managing artist's pages on Facebook, which required page updates, managing their albums and managing their fan base. These artists include FID Q on facebook and twitter Called www.twitter.com/FIDQ , MwanaFA, AY, and www.twitter.com/MzeiyaAY Lameck Ditto, Benjamin wa Mambo Jambo, Jaffarai, Albino Fulani, D Knob Working around the financial limitations of the music industry Michael promotes his services as he promotes these artists, building a name for himself. Michael zeal and enthusiasm mean that following his dreams effortlessly opens doors for him. His working relationship with artists and the success they have achieved indicates the extremely successful future that lies ahead of him. With his love for music and music production, Michael has an album in the making. Inspired by DJ KHALED, an international producer, he intends to compile an album by producing tracks and working with different artists while owning the whole albums himself.
He currently manages Babu Sikare a.k.a Albino Fulani, a Tanzanian artist based in US. Fulanisaw Michael's work onwww.babkubwa.com and requested Michael manages him here in Tanzania. Since their association about a month ago, the duo have managed to produce 3 full tracks featuring other local artists and one has already been released. The track, Nafasi, Features MwanaFA, Mr II a.k.a Sugu and Belle9. Also Michael Manages another artist called Suma. the duo have managed to produce 4 full tracks featuring Whyname and Albino Fulani. The song called Tofauti na jana and another song Called Hisia za Mtaa ft Steve RnB, Ningejua ft Steve RnB and another its Nyota ya Mchezo ft FID Q, Michael is promoting the album and has secured radio in interview with EA Radio on Friday Night Live Show, KISS FM radio with DEE 7 on show.
The fruits that have come from his many talents and hard work are quite tangible with promise of growth. Currently, Michael is working with Spice VAS Tanzania, is one of India's leading VAS (Value Added Services) companies in the Telecom arena. Part of the Spice Global Group, it offers innovative sol…utions for Telecom Operators, Enterprises and Government agencies using different mobile connectivity medium of Voice, IVR, SMS, USSD, WAP, 3G & Mobile Applications. It has partnership with most of the telecom service providers like Airtel, Vodafone, IDEA, BPL, BSNL, Reliance, MTNL and other corporate. as a product Manager , another online successful online promoting is opened another social network calledwww.gongamx.com its a new social network which promote Bongo Flava music. Together with Frank Gonga CEO of Gonga Wear.
