Monique Pelser, born in 1976 in Johannesburg South Africa, is a practicing visual artist currently lecturing in fine art (photography) for the School of Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

Voted by Art South Africa as the brightest young artist for 2007, Pelser is well known for her role reversal portraits. Her works reflect the complexities that surround the conventions of the photographic medium.

Pelser was educated in fine art at Rhodes University Grahamstown where she majored in the photographic arts. In 2006 she was awarded a Masters of Fine Art with distinction.

Along with Sabelo Mlangeni she was selected as one of the two South African photographers to attend the Maputo Curators Meeting, Mozambique in 2008 and the Bamako Curators Meeting, Mali in 2009.
