Born in 1945 in Aba (Nigeria).
In the motion picture industry for over three decades, Dr Ola Balogun, famous Nigerian filmmaker, scriptwriter, writer and scholar, established Iroko, a musical outfit whose repertoire is rooted in Highlife.
He made a good deal of documentaries inspired from the Yoruba
theater. His film Aiye (1979) had a great success in Nigeria, due to the special effects and the talent of the actors. "Cry freedom", shot in Ghana in 1980 about liberation war in Africa was well appreciated by scholars but not by filmgoers. In 1982, he shot in
Yoruba "Money Power" on Nigerian social life, denouncing corruption by politicians.
