Savrina Parevadee Chinien

Mauritian Scholar and Film Critic.

Born in Port-Louis (Mauritius), she studied in India (Delhi) and in France (Bordeaux).
After a Masters in English literature (Bordeaux 3 University), she obtained her PhD in November 2007 in French Comparative Literature (University of Bordeaux 3). Her area of research is focalised on the works of the Martinican "Créolistes" from a postcolonial perspective.

The thesis is entitled : "Oriental Communities in the Caribbean: integration or marginalisation in the works of Patrick Chamoiseau and Raphaël Confiant".
She has taught English language and literature in Mauritius, and then a few years in Bordeaux.

Dr Savrina CHINIEN is a lecturer in French and Francophone literature at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus (Trinidad and Tobago). She is also an affiliate member of the research team CELFA (Centre for Linguistic and Literary Francophone and African Studies) at Bordeaux University as well as a member of the AFFC (African Federation of Film Critics). Her areas of interest and published articles focus mainly on Francophone literature and cinema in the Caribbean region and the Indian Ocean.
