Sero was one of the first Ni-Vanuatu to become involved in creating contemporary art.
Born in 1961 in Ipau Village on the island of Futuna, Sero's artistic talents were recognised and encouraged by his teachers while he was at the regional district school on Tanna and this interested continued after he went on to the main French high school in Port Vila.
Recognising his artistic talents, the Lands Survey Department of the pre-independence Government requested Sero to begin working for them in 1978 in preparation for Vanuatu's independence in 1980, during which time he was trained in cartography.
