Ghanaian-British documentary filmmaker and novelist.

Yaba BADOE is a film director, scénariste, productrice, journalist, producer, writer multi-awarded.

She is known for "Women hold up the sky - Les femmes soutiennent le ciel" (2021, Co-Director), "The Witches of Gambaga" (2011, Director), "The Art of Ama Ata Aidoo" (2014, Director).

A graduate of King's College Cambridge, she was a civil servant in Ghana before becoming a general trainee with the BBC. She has taught in Spain and Jamaica and has worked as a producer and director making documentaries for the main terrestrial channels in Britain and the University of Ghana in Accra.
Her short stories have been published in Critical Quarterly, "African Love Stories:an anthology" and "New Daughters of Africa".
Her first adult novel, "True Murder" (which was inspired partly by her film on women who are accused of witchcraft in Ghana) was published by Jonathan Cape in 2009.
Her first YA novel, "A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars", was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award in 2018 and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Award 2018. "The Secret of the Purple Lake", a collection of interlinked fairy stories for children aged 9 to 12 was published by Cassava Republic in October 2017. She lives in London.

Her TV credits include: Black and White, a ground-breaking investigation into race and racism in Bristol, using hidden video cameras for BBC1; I Want Your Sex, for Channel 4 and a six-part series, VSO, for ITV. African Love Stories is now available in Swedish from Tranan publishers under the title Kärlek x 21; "Women hold up the sky - Les femmes soutiennent le ciel" (2021, Co-directed by Yaba Badoe, Nelson Makengo, Sharon Farr).
