Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk is a documentary directed by Sepideh Farsi, presented at the ACID at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, which immerses the viewer in the heart of the tragic daily life of Gaza through the eyes of Fatem (Fatima) Hassouna, a 24-year-old Palestinian photojournalist.

The film was born from a virtual encounter between the Iranian director, exiled in Paris, and Fatem Hassouna, who is documenting the war in Gaza. For more than 200 days, the two women communicated daily via telephone, creating a fragile lifeline between two worlds: that of war and confinement in Gaza, and that of a distant Europe, powerless in the face of horror. These exchanges, made up of fragments of life, laughter, tears, the sound of bombs, but also ordinary moments (such as the appearance of a cat or a family member), constitute the raw material of the film.

The documentary alternates Fatem's poignant accounts of her daily survival, her commitment to displaced children, and her writing workshops, with the director's reflections on distance, powerlessness, and female solidarity. As the days go by, a sincere friendship and deep compassion grow between them, despite the violence and uncertainty that punctuate life in Gaza.

Tragedy strikes when Fatem Hassouna is killed on April 16, 2025, during a targeted Israeli bombing, just as the film was announced for selection at Cannes. Her death gives the documentary a testamentary and universal scope: it becomes not only a testament to a life cut short, but also that of an entire people trapped by war.

Through a deliberately raw aesthetic, filmed on a cell phone, Sepideh Farsi offers a moving immersion into the life of a sacrificed generation, while paying tribute to the resilience, dignity, and hope that persist despite everything. "I hope to live the life I want. I must continue documenting so I can tell my children what I experienced and what I survived." - Fatem Hassouna

The film thus presents itself as an act of remembrance and resistance, concrete proof of the trivialized horror of genocide, but also a vibrant call for peace and freedom.
