Since its official formation in early 2012, the Centre for Social and Creative Media (CSCM) is fast becoming one of the leading visual and media research facilities in the Pacific.
The CSCM now employs a number of full-time staff and contractors and offers supervision and courses to postgraduate students. This increased research capacity ensures that in the future, researchers will be able to work with communities to produce high-quality research and awareness materials locally and sustainably.
As the CSCM trains the next generation of researchers and media producers in Goroka, communities themselves will increasingly have access to these skills and technologies.
In addition to providing mentoring and training, the centre has provided several scholarships, and hopes to expand this capacity to support students and staff to pursue their own research interests.
The centre maintains an interest in media practice and in ensuring that both research and practice produce outputs that are useful to communities.
Focus areas of the CSCM include:
- Communication and Social Change
- Communication for Development
- Health Communication
- Mobile Communication
- Arts-based research approaches
- Indigenous research approaches
- Filmmaking practice
Our current projects include content areas such as gender, HIV/AIDS, disability and environment.
